Boxing News Comes out on Top Again
Â鶹ӰԺ publication Boxing News has come out on top of the prestigious Boxing Writers Association of America Awards beating the likes of ESPN.
The BWAA, established in 1926 and held in high esteem in the industry, holds annual writing awards which this year drew a record number of submissions from media outlets and journalists across the six award categories. Boxing News came out on top overall, beating ESPN into second place. Other notable outlets who figured were direct competitors Boxing Scene, Boxing Monthly and The Ring, while publications like the LA Times, Sports Illustrated and the City Journal also figured.

In their announcement — which can be found here  — the BWAA said:
Boxing News and Boxing News Online, based in the United Kingdom, stormed the BWAA contest like the Beatles coming to America in 1964, totalling 27 points on two firsts, three seconds, a third and five honourable mentions. ESPN.com was next with 16 points.

Boxing News gained first place in Event Coverage thanks to Paul Wheeler’s excellent ringside report from the Oleksandr Usyk-Tony Bellew contest. This is a tremendous achievement for Paul, a tireless cog in BN’s wheel, in one of the marquee categories. I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate John Dennen and Elliot Worsell, who each finished second in the Feature (under 1,500 words) and Column categories respectively. I managed an honourable mention in Investigative Reporting, gaining one point for the cause, but every little helps.
One of Boxing News’s top US contributors, Spring Toledo, was placed first in the Feature (over 1,500 words) category for his BN cover story ‘Mike Tyson and the ghost of boxing’s past.’ Toledo also scored a third place and honourable mention for his work. Other BN contributors to fare well were Tris Dixon (former editor), Jack Hirsch, Thomas Gerbasi, Kieran Mulvaney and Chris Walker. More information can be found hereÂ

This is a tremendous achievement for the brand and the timing of it — as we build a new international digital paid-for platform — could not be better. Well done Paul, John and Elliot on their supreme achievements. It seems that Boxing News, as I’d long suspected, is indeed the best in the business.
